Marshmello and Manuel Turizo have announced a new cross-genre track called “El Merengue” that combines electronic music and merengue. The Grammy-nominated producer and the Latin artist have released a music video for the song, which pays tribute to merengue electrónico from the early 2000s. The collaboration was revealed in Times Square when the Marshmello helmet appeared to reveal Manuel Turizo on IG Live, and the duo announced the new single highlighted across seven surrounding Billboards.

Marshmello continued to tease his Spanish music collaborations during his EDC Mexico headline set where he debuted another unreleased track featuring Mexican artists Fuerza Regida and Peso Pluma. The release of “El Merengue” follows Manuel Turizo’s worldwide hit single ‘La Bachata’ which entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 21 weeks (#67 peak position), Billboard Global 200 for 33 weeks (#6 peak position), Hot Latin Songs for 34 weeks (#5 peak position), Tropical Airplay for 10 weeks at number one (remained on the chart for 40 weeks) and Latin Airplay for 1 week at number one (remained on the chart for 38 weeks).

The official music video for “El Merengue,” directed by Chadrick Preuss and Sandeep Vadlamudi, depicts Turizo reminiscing about his ex-girlfriend just before spotting her in the crowd of a nightclub. With some liquid confidence, Turizo approaches her and they dance together over the smooth merengue electrónico beat. The video scenes detail Turizo’s “El Merengue” lyrics composed by Manuel Turizo, Marshmello, Edgar Barrera, Julián Turizo, Miguel Andres Martinez Perea, Carolina Isabel Colón Juarbe, Nicolas Jose Cotton and Juan Diego Medina Vélez.

The song was produced by Marshmello, Nico Cotton, Slow Mike and Edgar Barrera, and explores the genre of Electronic Merengue for the first time. The release of the collaboration follows Marshmello’s “Numb” featuring Khalid, which peaked at number three on Billboard’s US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Fans are left speculating after Marshmello recently revealed that he’s “Working on myself…and a new album…” via his Instagram.
