The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation® has announced the Paco de Lucía Legacy Scholarship, the first in its Legacy Scholarship series, created in collaboration with the Paco de Lucía Foundation. This initiative aims to cultivate the next generation of music creators by offering educational opportunities that celebrate and preserve the legacy of Latin music.
Supporting Future Flamenco Artists
The Paco de Lucía Legacy Scholarship will provide $120,000 in tuition support, along with additional resources from the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, for one student to attend the music institution of their choice. This opportunity is open to aspiring flamenco musicians aged 17 to 25 who demonstrate exceptional passion for the genre and face financial challenges in pursuing higher education.
Honoring Paco de Lucía’s Legacy
Raquel “Rocky” Egusquiza, Executive Director of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the partnership with the Paco de Lucía Foundation, stating, “It’s an honor to pay tribute to the legacy of one of the most influential guitar players in the history of flamenco and music in general, and forge new paths in his memory.”
Casilda Sánchez Varela, president of the Paco de Lucía Foundation, added, “It’s important to support young musicians through international platforms as prestigious as the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, and, of course, through the artistic and personal legacy of maestros like Paco de Lucía.”

A Decade of Impact in Music Education
The Paco de Lucía Legacy Scholarship builds on the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation’s longstanding commitment to education. Over the past decade, the Foundation has awarded 427 scholarships and invested over $10 million in scholarships, grants, mentorships, and educational programs.
Celebrating Paco de Lucía’s Artistry
The scholarship announcement follows a tribute event hosted by The Latin Recording Academy® and the Regional Government of Andalucía, honoring Paco de Lucía in Cádiz. The event featured performances of the guitarist’s most beloved works, as well as the exclusive premiere of “Cositas Buenas,” a collaborative recording by Latin GRAMMY scholarship recipients and artists from the Alalá Foundation.
