ABOUT FARINA:
Without ignoring her daring and extremely avant-garde fashion choices, Farina has become one of the most well-known Latin urban female performers because to her unapologetic lyrics, distinctive voice, empowering raps, and remarkable freestyles.
Her identity La Nena Fina comes to life through her poetry lyricism, edgy storytelling prowess, ability to sing and rap, and seamless blending of dancehall, reggae, reggaetón, trap, rap, pop, and folklore with the sensibility and vulnerability of a woman's perspective.
Farina, whose name in Arabic means "unique," and Pao, whose last name in Chinese, means "wrap around," refer to her maternal and paternal origin as well as a wide combination of cultures and heritage that form the basis of her artistic expression. Farina was born in Medellin, Colombia. Having a long history of composers and singers in the family, music has been passed down to me since birth. She differs from many of her contemporaries because to her diverse origin, which includes Andean, Arabic, Chinese, and Caribbean elements.
Farina started her musical career in 2005 when she participated in Colombia's version of "The X-Factor," where she made history as the country's first female singer to dominate the Latin Urban genre. She released her debut album, "Yo Soy Farina," the following year. She proceeded to acquire fame in 2011 by playing "Nikita" in the telenovela Tres Milagros, which was Colombia's most watched show of the year and earned her two nominations for the TVyNovelas Awards. Twelve tracks from her second album, "Del Odio Al Amor," which was produced by DJ Largo and published in 2012, were all written by Farina.
The following years saw her continue to release music, most notably "PumPum" featuring Engo Flow (90 million views on YouTube) and "Jala Jala" with J Alvarez (10 million views), solidifying her status and earning the respect of her peers in the male-dominated genre. In 2013, she was recognized as the "Best Colombian Artist" at the Mi Gente TV Awards.
Later, legendary GRAMMY® Award-winning megastar Wyclef Jean noticed Farina and became her mentor and musical godfather. He worked on several of her songs, including "Cassanova," "Rub a Dub," and the traditional song "Aguacero," which is dedicated to her aunt Toto La Momposina, the Queen of Colombian Folklore and recipient of the Latin GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award. Her appearance on the Spanglish Remix of Wyclef's song "Hendrix" and her inclusion on the song "Party Started" from his EP J'ouvert helped Farina reach new audiences.
She joined Jay-record Z's label Roc Nation in 2017, where she released the hit song "Mejor Que Yo" (71 million views). She was one of three artists overall, and the only one from Latin America, to be nominated for the Artist of Tomorrow campaign, which was run in conjunction with the 59th GRAMMY® Awards and CBS.com. She was also a featured performer on Yo Gotti's "Rake it Up" Spanish remix that same year.
She attracted Sony Music Latin's notice right away, and they signed her in 2018. Since then, she has continued to release successful singles, such as "Ego," which received 15 million YouTube views, "Superarte," with Miky Woodz, which received 16 million views, "Perras Como Tu," with Tokischa, which was featured on Miss Bala's soundtrack, "Como Una Kardashian," (30 million views), illustrating the before and after of Farina's fashion evolution, her well-known freestyle "Fariana," featuring Blueface, which received 21 million views (66 million views).
The Facebook Watch series "Latin Music Queens," which followed the personal and professional lives of the three performers and provided a rare behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to be a global singing sensation, was created in 2020, during the height of the global pandemic, by Farina in collaboration with Thala and Sofa Reyes. Her duet with Maluma, "Asi Asi," spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard Latin charts in the same year. She and reggaeton superstar Arcángel released the six-song visual EP "FlowRes" earlier last year. She played the lead in the upcoming 2022 film "Flow Calle," directed by Frank Perozo, which also features Myke Towers and Kiko El Crazy and has a US premiere scheduled for the spring of 2022. Farina recently appeared on El Alfa's tune "Bendedico," which shows off her range as one among the "reinas" of Latin music.
The Latin singer, whose music has remained popular year after year, consistently tops the charts on Instagram and TikTok with songs like "Las Nenas" and "Trakata." Over 100 million people have viewed "Las Nenas," which is Platinum-certified, on YouTube. She has worked with numerous well-known musicians, including Blueface, Tokischa, Maluma, Natti Natasha, Cazzu, Wyclef Jean, Farruko, Gente de Zona, and Lil Durk.
