The Outrun: A conversation with Director Nora Fingscheidt

A story about healing, Nora Fingscheidt directs a special story from bestselling memoir The Outrun written by Amy Liptrop. After being away from home for over a decade, biologist Rona, played by Saoirse Ronan, returns home to the Orkney Islands right off the coast of Scotland, fresh out of rehab.

Premiering at Sundance 2024, this addiction to recovery pipeline heartwrenching drama covers the topic of the inner world struggles of a young woman grappling with a lost spirit. Amy Liptrop renamed the main character to Rona for her very honest story. The memoir included a collection of journal entries written by Liptrop. Beautifully portrayed, these entries were added throughout the film with visuals of what seemed to be Rona’s home town, as small poetic letters.

This week, Editor Savannah Jewel had a conversation with Nora Fingscheidt to talk more about the behind the scenes making of this special film and what it was like to bring this story to life through collaboration.

The Outrun will be released in theaters on October 4th.
