Recently, Sun Bum made a significant splash in Miami with its largest ever beach hangout, marking the conclusion of Skin Cancer Awareness Month and celebrating the brand's Just Use Sunscreen campaign. This initiative advocates for sunscreen use regardless of brand choice. Thousands of locals gathered at Miami Beach to participate in a day filled with essential sun safety education and abundant free SPF products. The event's success and impact have inspired Sun Bum to commit to making this an annual tradition, aiming to bring free sun education and SPF directly to the masses.
Addressing UV Exposure in Miami
Miami is one of the US cities with the highest UV exposure, contributing to Florida's high rate of melanoma cases each year. While awareness of the need for SPF is growing, research still reveals gaps in sun care knowledge, including proper sunscreen application, understanding different types of sunscreen, and catering to unique skin types. Sun Bum's Miami Beach event tackled these issues head-on, engaging the community to debunk common sunscreen myths, emphasize the importance of SPF, and continue its mission to empower people to enjoy the sun safely.
Event Highlights
The event, held on South Beach, blended fun, sun, education, and protection seamlessly. Among the highlights was a 10-foot sundial, inviting guests to explore the 'Five S's of Sun Safety': sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat, shade, and sleeves. This memorable framework helps people stay fully protected from UV rays. Sun Bum's Sun Safety Ambassadors distributed free SPF and provided valuable information, resources, and tips on sun care and safety throughout the day.
Just Use Sunscreen Campaign
As part of the Just Use Sunscreen campaign, launched ahead of Skin Cancer Awareness Month this year, Sun Bum has already rolled out several initiatives. These include a partnership with the Skin Cancer Foundation to offer free skin exams in San Diego, and a series of local beach hangouts across the country providing free education and SPF. The brand has also spread awareness and resources across social media channels, partnering with dermatology experts and local personalities to amplify efforts and reach, and launched an extensive outreach program.
Sun Bum's Commitment
"During Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and now leading into summer, we've given out tens of thousands of free samples of SPF. Knowing that the 2,000 people who joined us today are protected from the Florida sun's harmful rays is incredibly rewarding," said Evan Slater, CMO at Sun Bum. "Our goal has always been clear: to protect people from the harmful effects of excessive sun exposure, regardless of the brand they choose. Each year, we find new and engaging ways to educate and protect our community, since it's at the core of what we do. We're excited to continue our mission to provide SPF awareness and products to everyone who chooses to live and love in the sun."
Community Engagement
The event attracted over 2,000 Miami locals, many of whom eagerly gathered from the early morning as preparations unfolded. As Sun Bum continues to host beach events across the country throughout the summer, those at home can tune into the brand's latest Spotify playlist, featuring music from the event, to soak up the vibes and get ready for their local stop.
