Puerto Rico's Christian Alicea Is Making Waves

Christian Alicea, who has been called "the next big thing in tropical music," is influenced by his Puerto Rican heritage, his family's music, and his love of Latin music. There aren't many young salsa artists, but Christian Alicea is making waves. Christian, who is only 26 years old and has been working professionally for less than a year, has spent the past 13 weeks with his singles "Vuelve" and "Cobarde" in the top 25 on the Billboard: Tropical Airplay charts in the United States. Our society has been waiting for a star like this brave, self-assured, and charismatic young man.

Christian's blood runs with tropical rhythms because he was born in the musical town of Lares, Puerto Rico. His brothers played in the band Zone De Tambora, which has shared the stage with the likes of Elvis Crespo, and their father is a percussionist and the leader of the salsa band Maiken. As a kid, Christian was in school bands, and by the time he was 11 he was singing on stages across his native country with his dad's band, Maiken (which has been around for 30 years and counting). Family, especially his father and siblings, who have always shown him love and acceptance, are his primary sources of inspiration.

Christian Alicea was determined to become a professional musician, so while he studied hard, he also earned a degree in fire science. He's been working on his music career since 2019, when he decided to begin recording. Alicea is just one of the many people who discovered their happy place in the mayhem of Covid-19, because it gave him the opportunity to discover who he was as a musician while the rest of the world seemed to move in slow motion. Beginning at the tail end of 2021 with "La Verde," the artist then released "Special Edition," a collaborative effort with producer Eliot "El Mago D Oz" and J Alvarez, who served as an inspiration for the artist's career.

The year 2022 has been remarkable for Christian. Singles like "Mujeriego," "Que Rica," "Se Le Nota," "Vuelve," and "Cobarde" were released by the artist. The songs "Vuelve" and "Cobarde" have been his most successful to date, earning him widespread acclaim and propelling him to new heights; they peaked at #11 and #10 on the salsa charts in the Dominican Republic and Colombia, respectively, and spent 13 consecutive weeks in the top 25 of the Billboard: Tropical Airplay charts. He used this to his advantage and was soon nominated for "New Artist of the Year" at the Latin Plug Awards. This past year, Christian Alicea performed at several major festivals, including the "Feria De Las Flores" in Medellin, Colombia, in front of over 40,000 people, and the "Carnaval de la Cultura Latina" in the Bronx, New York, which drew tens of thousands of people.

Christian Alicea has multiple releases planned for 2023 and is finishing up his debut studio album.
