Nathy Peluso's latest retro-pop single, "Tonta," showcases her effortlessly cool confidence and previews her upcoming album while revealing her new hair. The Argentine-born, Spanish-living artist, songwriter, singer, and performer has been hailed by Billboard as "one of the most fascinating artists of our time" and delivers an addictive and energetic track. The music video for "Tonta," directed by Félix Bollaín and produced by Little Spain, features Nathy performing entrancing choreography as she trashes an apartment before heading her own way.
Nathy shares her inspiration for composing “Tonta” in a new self-published editorial on Vogue Spain ((read here)): “The other day I got together with my ex….I put on some high-heeled black boots and, I'm sorry to disappoint you girls, but while I drank a glass of water, I said that I was very grateful because thanks to that relationship I had definitely learned what I no longer want to relive… Having made a mistake in love or made a mistake as a woman makes my more human side remind me that I am an apprentice and that turns me on. I want to keep failing and surviving, ladies…. After going through all that discomfort, what prevails is my learning as a woman in the world. I understand more and more what I want. My limits have been rewritten. I know better when to take a pause to protect my energy.”
The song “Tonta” was co-produced by Illangelo (The Weeknd, M.I.A., Grimes) with Nathy and Didi Gutman.
This single follows the release of Nathy's latest self-produced track, "Estás Buenísimo," a raw rap song that she wrote and set with intention. In the accompanying music video, Nathy cat-calls a man she thinks is sexy, flipping the male gaze once again both lyrically and visually. PAPER praised Nathy, stating that “Argentinian artist Nathy Peluso is a chameleon, transcending culture and language with her slick and smart raps and production, packaged into a challenging and magnetic punk package.”
Aside from her music career, Nathy is also set to launch her first collection with Desigual later this month. The collection will feature garments she designed alongside Desigual's creative team, with inclusivity for different body types in mind.
Nathy Peluso has accumulated over 1.5 billion streams across the globe and headlined her first-ever arena tour at the end of 2022, with sold-out shows across Buenos Aires, Argentina, Santiago, Chile, and Madrid, Spain. VOGUE U.S. published an exclusive behind-the-scenes report from the Madrid show, and she closed her stage at Coachella earlier last year, receiving accolades from Rolling Stone and Billboard. Peers such as Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and J Balvin are among the many tastemakers who continue to follow Nathy's genre-versatile releases.
NME captured Nathy's performance essence, stating that "Peluso is like Rosalía, Rihanna, Christine & The Queens, Grace Jones, and The Terminator in one bewilderingly awesome package." Following consecutive high-profile international appearances, Nathy Peluso was nominated for 3 Latin Grammys last year, celebrating her collaboration "Pa Mis Muchachas" with Christina Aguilera, Becky G, and Nicki Nicole. Nathy won the 2021 Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Album for her debut album "Calambre," which was later nominated for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album at the GRAMMYs.
Nathy Peluso aims to provoke and thrive at creating characters and shape-shifting between styles, genres, and languages. Her debut album, "Calambre," blends crisp hip-hop, sleek retro R&B, and a modern take on old-school salsa.
