What initially inspired you to get into DJing and producing music?

DJ Dynamiq: As a young kid, I always had a passion for music. My father used to be the leader of a marching band, and I remember being four or five years old and marching with him. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. That was my introduction to music and entertainment. As I grew older, I continued to have that passion. When I was 18 and visiting Hollywood, I went to a club as a minor, used a fake ID, and saw a DJ on vinyl / turntables. It was then where my interest for djing grew. All this led to falling in love with DJs such as Daft punk, DJ AM, and Jazzy Jeff, who inspired me to become a dj. That's how my passion for DJing grew.

As for producing, throughout my years as a professional DJ, I noticed that producing music was becoming more common in the industry. I knew I had to start producing music to keep up with the rest of the DJs. It became the new norm for touring DJs to also produce their own music. So, I decided to get with the program and follow the trend.

How has your style and approach to music evolved over the years?

My style has always been influenced by my culture and who I am as a person. When I started DJing professionally in 2010, EDM was the biggest genre in the industry. It was just starting to explode. So, I had to learn to adapt and DJ in different venues, playing open format music. At the time, I wanted to stick to playing hip hop and reggaeton, which were my background and passion. However, I realized that being diverse and able to play different formats and music for different crowds and events was essential. I was told by a well-known DJ that I needed to adapt and be willing to play for different rooms and different people. So, I forced myself to learn EDM music and explore different genres. Although I initially hated it, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Now, I can confidently perform in front of any crowd and at any type of event because of my experience and knowledge of different types of music and cultures.

What sets you apart from other DJs and producers in the industry?

I believe it's my persona, character, and personality. I'm well-liked and respected by people because of the way I carry myself. Whenever I walk into a room, I light it up. I have a good sense of reading the room and know how to talk to people. I'm also very business-oriented and wear many different hats as an entrepreneur. Overall, I think I'm different as a person. I treat everyone with love and respect, whether they are a millionaire or someone working behind a bar or requesting a song. That's what really sets me apart.

Can you tell us about your experience as a member of the Heavy Hitters?

Being a member of the Heavy Hitters has been a dream come true for me. Almost every DJ has dreamed of being a Heavy Hitter or being affiliated with them in some way. It's like a brotherhood; we are a family. I received a call from DJ Camilo on Christmas Eve in 2020, asking me to send my logo and press photos. Then, on New Year's Day, they announced a new wave of Heavy Hitters, and I was fortunate to be one of the five DJs inducted. Since then, we have a WhatsApp thread with all the Heavy Hitters around the world. We chat and check in on each other every day, especially during the pandemic when we supported each other emotionally and even financially. I recently attended the Heavy Hitters retreat in Punta Cana, where I heard incredible stories from legends like DJ Enuff, DJ Lobo, and DJ Camilo. It truly feels like a family, and that's how I would describe the Heavy Hitters in one word.

How do you balance being an in-demand DJ and producer with other aspects of your life, such as family and personal time?

Balancing my career as a DJ and producer with other aspects of my life can be challenging, but it's essential to me. My family, especially my daughters, and my health are my top priorities. Traveling and performing worldwide exposes me to different environments, hotels, and eating out frequently. So, when I'm home during the week, I focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I eat well, stay hydrated, work out, and even engage in activities like Reiki, acupuncture, and massages to take care of my body and overall well-being. While I'm on the road, I'm still present for my family, giving them my full support. It's like managing two different worlds—the personal side and the entertainer side—but I've been doing it for over a decade now, and it's worth the effort and energy. Being a DJ and producer has allowed me to provide for my family, and I consider it a blessing that I wouldn't trade for anything.

And what has been your biggest career highlight or accomplishment so far?

That's a tough question since I have several significant achievements. However, if I had to choose one, it would be becoming a member of the SF 49ers Ampsquad. It’s a great honor to be one of the official in-game Djs for the San Francisco 49ers. As a diehard 49ers fan since I was a kid, being selected as their DJ for eight consecutive seasons is mind-blowing. Seeing my name and face on the jumbotron during game days still feels unreal. I receive messages and calls from friends and family congratulating me, and it's incredibly fulfilling. It's not just a dream come true; it's beyond anything I ever imagined.

And how do you approach your performances, particularly at large festivals like Baja Beach Fest and Suenos Festival?

I approach my performances with a high level of professionalism and preparation. I take my job and career very seriously, so I ensure that I'm well-prepared beforehand. When it comes to the music, being punctual, and having everything ready for showtime, I'm always on top of it. As for the actual performance, it varies depending on the festival. Since I'm often one of the opening DJs at these big festivals, my role is to set the vibe and get the party started while respecting the other artists on the lineup. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work with numerous artists, not just as an opener, but also as their DJ at clubs, festivals, and arenas. All those experiences have shaped and prepared me for these significant moments. Whether it's a premier nightclub in Las Vegas or Miami, opening concerts for stars like Bad Bunny, or DJing for 65,000+ fans at a 49ers game, I approach each performance professionally and with the utmost respect.

Can you tell us about your single "Lotto" featuring Quimico Ultra Mega and the inspiration behind it? Can fans expect new music from you this year?

The inspiration behind "Lotto" came to me while I was in Miami during the pandemic. Florida was one of the few states that remained open, so I took the opportunity to work on music there. I had heard the beat for about a year, and while I was at my producer's studio, I decided to revisit it. With input from the artists and producers present, we started writing the song, and the concept of "Lotto" emerged. Since it was a dembow record, I wanted a talented artist to feature on it; someone who could bring it to life. I reached out to some of my people in the Dominican Republic, and they connected me with Quimico Ultra Mega. I flew to Miami, recorded the song and a music video, and the rest is history. I'm incredibly proud of "Lotto," and it has exceeded my expectations, particularly in nightclubs. I receive videos of it being played all around the world, from Miami and Italy to Vegas, Dallas, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. It's truly a blessing, and I'm grateful for the support. As for new music, yes, there's more to come. I'm exploring different styles and evolving my sound, but I don't want to reveal too many details just yet. Stay tuned to find out what's coming.

Do we have an expected date or time frame for when you'll be releasing new music?

New DJ Dynamiq music is coming this summer. Fans can expect amazing music primarily tailored for the clubs.

How do you see the Latin music industry evolving in the coming years?

I've witnessed the Latin music industry evolve significantly, especially since the early 2000s. As a DJ, I was ahead of the wave and started playing Latin parties around 2015, anticipating the upcoming surge in popularity. Right now, regional music, particularly in Mexico, is leading the way in terms of writing and producing quality music. I believe Latin music, in general, will become the number one genre worldwide and the most commercial. I can foresee artists from various genres, including EDM, Puerto Rican artists, country artists, and American urban artists, jumping on the Latin wave. We're just scratching the surface of this music movement, and I'm excited to see its continued growth.

Lastly, what can fans expect from your upcoming performance at Suenos Festival and your future projects?

I'm thrilled about my upcoming performance at Suenos Festival. It's my second consecutive year performing. This time, I'll also be involved in after-parties and pre-parties, adding an extra layer of excitement. Additionally, I have a surprise up my sleeve for my DJ set during the festival. Apart from that, I'm looking forward to Baja Beach Fest, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary. I'll be performing there for the fourth consecutive year, and this time, I'm bringing Mariah Angeliq with me for a joint performance. I'll also be DJing on my own set as an artist on the lineup. Furthermore, I have some surprises planned for the after-parties at Baja Beach Fest since it's a milestone year for the festival. Fans can expect an unforgettable experience, and I can't wait to share my future projects with them.
