I had the pleasure of dining at Barra Vieja, a newly opened Mexican restaurant in Downtown Doral, and let me tell you—this spot is something special. Invited to experience the menu firsthand, I quickly realized that this isn’t just another Mexican eatery. Behind the incredible dishes is Chef Julián Medina, an award-winning chef who named the restaurant after Barra Vieja Beach in Mexico, a place where his parents would take him as a child. That personal connection is woven into every detail, from the warm ambiance to the carefully crafted flavors that bring his memories to life on the plate.
The menu is packed with dishes that celebrate Mexico’s rich culinary traditions while offering a fresh, modern twist. I started with the Aguachile Verde de Camarón, a bold and zesty shrimp dish with just the right amount of heat. Then came the Carne Asada, a prime NY strip served with crispy potatoes and green salsa that melted in my mouth. The Pollo a las Brasas, with its tamarind-piloncillo sauce, was another standout. And, of course, no visit is complete without a cocktail—the Chef Margarita was a perfect balance of smooth and refreshing. Whether you're looking for a date-night spot or a place to unwind with friends, Barra Vieja delivers an authentic experience that goes beyond the food. If you're in Miami, this is one place you’ll want to check out.
