In 2024, Louis Vuitton takes center stage at Design Miami.Paris, presenting a special exhibition to celebrate the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades collection and its long-standing collaboration with Estúdio Campana. Marking the 40th anniversary of the renowned Brazilian design studio, the exhibition will showcase the brand’s iconic fusion of contemporary design and fine craftsmanship. Set at LV Dream from October 16-20, the event promises a rich exploration of art, culture, and innovative design.
Honoring Four Decades of Estúdio Campana
The ground floor of the exhibition focuses on Estúdio Campana’s celebrated work with Louis Vuitton, highlighting pieces from the Objets Nomades collection. Visitors can admire creations like the Bomboca, inspired by cloud forms, and the Maracatu cabinet, which draws on the vibrant traditions of northeastern Brazil. The showcase not only presents design but offers insight into the creative journey of Estúdio Campana, from their beginnings in São Paulo in 1984 to becoming global leaders in innovative design.
Cocoon Couture: Revisiting an Icon
One of the exhibition’s standout features is the Cocoon chair, initially introduced in 2015. For this event, Humberto Campana reimagined the chair in six unique versions, each drawing inspiration from Brazilian folklore and crafted with meticulous attention to detail. From the feather-covered Matinta, evoking a mysterious nocturnal bird, to the sequined Curupira, honoring the mythical guardian of rainforests, the Cocoon Couture series blends luxury with cultural storytelling.
The Craftsmanship Behind the Cocoon
Each Cocoon piece is the result of collaboration with world-class artisans. For example, the Iara model features over 4,000 glass tubes stitched in a pattern mimicking water ripples, taking 274 hours to complete. The Boiuna, inspired by a legendary river serpent, incorporates leather sequins applied by hand to create an iridescent effect. These intricate techniques bring together traditional and modern craftsmanship, ensuring each piece stands as both art and a functional design.
Unveiling the Cabinet Kaléidoscope
Another highlight is the debut of the Kaléidoscope Cabinet, a limited edition of eight pieces. Composed of over 500 pieces of leather marquetry, the cabinet uses a trompe l'œil technique to create a hypnotic visual effect. Opening to reveal finely crafted interior storage, it represents a modern take on Louis Vuitton's historical trunks, bridging the past and present through design. The cabinet’s creation involved 200 hours of craftsmanship, showcasing the Maison’s dedication to quality.
Exploring the Louis Vuitton Apartment
The exhibition extends beyond individual pieces to feature a complete Louis Vuitton apartment. This space showcases new collections in table art, furniture, and décor. Items such as the Signature sofa by Franck Chou, Binda armchairs by Raw Edges, and various designer trunks demonstrate Louis Vuitton's ongoing evolution in luxury living. The apartment captures the spirit of Louis Vuitton’s Art of Travel philosophy, where even everyday items are crafted with exceptional care.
Bridging Art, Design, and Everyday Life
Louis Vuitton’s exhibit at Design Miami.Paris is not just a display of luxury items; it’s a celebration of how art and design enhance everyday living. Whether through the playful Constellation porcelain tableware or the historical Bed trunk originally made for explorers, the exhibition highlights how thoughtful design can transcend functionality to become an integral part of personal experiences and family heritage.
